Uncompleted

uncompleted
Originally uploaded by mayavi.
I have never painted colors before, atleast tried once or twice with acrylic but with oil paints, never. I decided to try for the first time with oil, one reason it gives plenty of room for errors and can be broken at will and continued. (Am I not lazy *hehehe*)....This picture here is oil on canvas started, with no idea of when I would finish. Particularly, the amount of cleaning the brushes and the palette required has literally put me off and infact I cursed myself for deciding to continue later on this.....I did more cleaning than the time I spent on the painting....After all, I cant spend all my money on brushes....

No reference here from which I paint this....just a roadside view of a barren land with the trees offering shelter with the rocks as chairs.

Hope to complete it sometime in the coming weeks.

looks good for a first timer. I've just done one canvas painting, that too with my art master. Remember the 'lady in red' in my room?

True that oil painting gives me more freedom to re-do your strokes. Just for a backgroud shade i spent hours to get it right (the color I wanted). I tried brown and as my mood changed, one shade changed to another and finally ended up in some dirty green (was good although!).

As for cleaning the brushes, what agent do you use? I used the linseed oil (screw the spellings!). It is something like dipping in kerosene. A few bristles will be lost in due course though.

Hmmm... looks like you got lots to do on a weekend. Great! Keep em coming!

I use a studio and brush cleaner. I use the linseed oil only for thinning the paint itself..but man, they are so damn costly *hehehe*...

Yep, I have decided to get one from art master and try it out rather than beating abt the bush like this....

not bad at all for a first attempt! when i was in school, i hated the cleaning bit too. what a chore...

i can't help it phantom..forgive me but the word is 'incomplete'..you may want to look into that ;) hahahaha...

Enchanted Mind said...

LOL @Nat,

After you mentioned, I had second thoughts about it...It kinda felt embarrasing(AH, I'm learning to laugh away at my embarrassments, do u have any other choice? )..
but I just checked ...it oes exists...

seems like I was right after all

http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=uncompleted

Its in past tense. "Incomplete" is never in past tense. Though I accept that Incomplete work makes more sense, but to say the same in past tense, "Uncompleted" is the word...

Ah, dont I find ways to defend my statements. Boy, I love to argue for the sake of arguing......know what its an interesting way to come up with more perspectives :-p

wahahaha...oh phantom, the extend you'll go to prove me wrong! you checked a dictionary!

I get a real kick out of that..even if i concede my english will never be more accurate than that of a dictionary. Ok, at least we learnt something new from this.

(God forbid that i ever make a grammatical error. You'll bang my head.)
