Golden-Quadrilateral

Golden-Quadrilateral
Originally uploaded by mayavi.
India is a big country and the golden quadrilateral project aims to connect the major metros, Chennai, Kolkatta, Bombay, Delhi by roadways or that is what I have heard. The result- Better roads as is evident in this stretch of a four lane system. This is a stretch between Kanchipuram and Ranipet - nice laid with wide and proper median in between....I liked the picture for the plesant sky blue...(otherwise I hate this color on anything)....It wa taken while driving 120km/hr !!! Pat, pat, Phantom....lovely pic without any shake !!!

I drew this on 26 th Jan....after bored to death watching a stupid movie called "RED" ......there cldnt be a worse movie than that !!!

This is done using a graphite/charcoal pencil on a water color paper(the rough textured one) I wanted to feel the flow of charcoal on that paper ...so instead of wasting the paper, I drew this....Sketch is a favourite form of art for me....just plain black and white ....and this texture is a lot comfortable for charcoal......It cld also be messy if you dont handle it properly....charcoal can spread easily on this paper and spoil your mood completely !!!!

"Mon Meilleur Ami" - My Best Friend too.

He is Sam ! and celebrates his Birthday on Feb 14...I envy him on that !

Only complaints my parents have is that when we meet ( read as whenever I go to Chennai) ...we play a little violently...and have broken a few things :-)) ...no Not me...It is him........But he generally escapes from the scoldings and I get it on his behalf......

But he is my best friend !!!

As promised, the place in the original color....

It became so dark and cloudy with in 5 minustes( we were sweating in the hot sun earlier) ,and it produced a weird combination of dark clouds in a dry place with subtle greeneary around on the brown rocks...

And as I always say, only Nature can produce weird color combination and yet make it look like a heaven !!!

Poikaal

Poikaal
Originally uploaded by mayavi.
This image was taken at Mayajaal - an entertainment complex in Chennai on the day of Kanum Pongal.

This day is special during the major festival in India called Mahara Sankranti ( in the North India) and Pongal (in the south India). The festival is about paying due respect, thanking and celebrating the nature - for providing a good harvest with good sun and monsoon! It is a 3 day event and during the third day named Kanum Pongal, people just relax and enjoy by going out with their family on the bullock carts(only in villages these days) painted colourfully. At the fair, lots of traditional events are conducted to people's entertainment. One such among them is "Poikaal Kuthirai Attam". The artists dress themselves colourfully and get into a wooden horse and dance. The legs of the horse are those of the artists - Hence the name "Poikaal" meaning false legs. It is one of those lovely dances I have come across with delicate and soft movements with the wooden horse providing the fun.

On one of those days in the early 90's, in a suburban train, I found a notebook unattended. I opened it and found a pencil sktech of a Man and a Woman embraced in a lovely posture. It was kinda of just an outline but, being a ardent fan of sketches, I loved the proportions, curves and the hold. And I reproduced it or should I say copied? with what else other than my favourite colors. - Black and White. And recently, I found this lying in one of those old remains dirty and bad. Now, I ahve decided to reproduce it again, but this time on a black chart than with acrylic background filling.
